Skėnderaj - Nongovernmental organization "Prehja" in Skenderaj supported by the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo began the campaign for breast cancer, the disease present to a great extent on women of Kosovo.

In the frame of this initiative with the slogan "“Together we can overpower it, otherwise it can overpower us," a public awareness campaign about this disease was held in Skenderaj, seeking the contribution of all in combating it.

The project will last eight months, including research on cases, campaigns, debates, and finally the compilation of a database of women in the municipality that are affected by breast cancer.

Ajnishahe Halimi, director of NGO "Prehje", personally affected by this disease, said the research they have done in the field during these days resulted with with sad facts; some of the already identified women do not belong to this world any more.

According to her it is not fair for women, attacked by this disease, beside pain and difficulties they have, to face with leaking houses, or to supply with flour their families, just like it is happening with some of them.

Also it is not right the apparatus for the treatment of this disease, which is in Pristina, to be out of function, while the number of patients is increased enormously.

In this case she has appealed the responsible bodies that the radiography apparatus to be put in function soon.

Oncologist, Mejreme Krasniqi told that as from December 2010, when Oncology Institute was put in function, respectively the Department for treatment of this disease, there were examined 18 thousand patients, out of which 16 thousand have undergone the therapy.

Krasniqi asked lawmakers and government to allocate a larger budget for oncology in order to properly treat all patients with this disease, while she required the commitment of everyone in combating this disease, especially in its early detection.

At this meeting in which participated representatives of the Kosovo Parliament, U.S. Embassy, other local institutions, civil society representatives and numerous citizens of both sexes, also spoke Nafije Latifi attacked with breast cancer since 2004,  then municipal director of health, Osman Deliu, and so on
