German conservative politician Andreas Schockenfoff told Beta news agency that his party does not expect "Serbia to recognize Kosovo before the end of the negotiations for membership in the EU, but to reach an agreement with Kosovo, which will regulate their neighborly relations, " KOHA reports.

In this interview he said that to his interlocutors in Belgrade “he has not said anything that they did not know."

"This message we have delivered to the last government and parliament. Foremost and what should be clear is that the decision to start negotiations for EU joining is made unanimously by the European Council, and Germany is bound by the decision of the Bundestag. For this reason, it is not important what the EU proposes but also Bundestag to give its consent, " Schockenhoff ,the chairman of the parliamentary group of conservatives (CDU / CSU) in the Bundestag, said.

Asked if the contract that is expected between Serbia and Kosovo should be modeled on the German-German agreement of 1972, Schockenhoff said they have two different situations.

"It is not about the agreement between the two Germanys, nor the Cyprus problem. Situations cannot be compared.  I do not speak about recognition, but about Serbia-Kosovo agreement by which it will be regulated neighborly cooperation.

"However, what we expect until the  beginning of negotiations is to exist a written statement, agreement, but only a written statement because by the end of the negotiations for membership  the two countries will sign the agreement," Schockenhoff said.
