Belgrade - Brussels is preparing for the first official visit of elected president, Tomislav Nikolic.
The exact date of visit, which Belgrade announced is on June 14th has not been determined, it was announced at the headquarters of the European Commission. The European Union also hopes that the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina will be continued as soon as the new government of Serbia is established, reports B92.
"After the elections we have on several occasions pointed out the importance of continuity in the efforts of Serbia towards the European path. Early visit of President Nikolic to Brussels is so welcomed and therefore at this moment we are trying to harmonize the date of the visit", said Pia AHRENKILDE HANSEN, spokeswoman of the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
Maja Kocijancic, spokeswoman of Catherine Ashton the chief of EU diplomacy, however, emphasizes that EU clearly specified that Brussels expects the continuation of dialogue with Pristina.
“We have made it clear that we expect that dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina is continued. We expect the rapid formation of new Serbian government, after which we shall consult with both sides how and when we can continue the process. We have made it clear to both sides that the dialogue is in the interest of Serbia and Kosovo, and that exist practical issues which has to be solved", she said.
