Mitrovica - Local authorities in Mitrovica on Monday estimated that the increased presence of KFOR in the north has helped relax the situation.

At the meeting of the Security Committee, deputy mayor, Riza Haziri, said the reaction of security structures, especially of KFOR, upon request of the municipality of Mitrovica and northern citizens for increased security has been good and that now the situation is considerably more relaxed. However, according to him, these structures should be committed regarding the maintenance of the order there, because the situation is unstable; in this context, he mentioned existing barricades in the streets, which are overly burdening the lives of citizens. Whereas director for Protection and Rescue, Behxhet Bala, said that last week was mostly calm, but there were provocations. "There have been provocations of Serb illegal structures in the north. He mentioned the attempt to close the road with gravel and barbed wire that lead to Albanian villages of Zvecan, "he said. Bala also said that it is necessary the security structures be vigilant during this week and especially on May6, when it was announced that the Serbian local elections to be held in Zvecan and Zubin Potok. "These elections should not be allowed, and adequate measures should be taken in order not to have incidents." Whereas Avni Zabeli said police would continue with additional measures in mixed neighborhoods since the killing of Haradinaj in his apartment.
